Cristo Fernandez Embarks on Professional Soccer Career

Cristo Fernandez Begins Professional Soccer Journey

Cristo Fernandez, celebrated for his portrayal of Dani Rojas in the popular television series 'Ted Lasso', has ventured into a new chapter by making his professional soccer debut. This milestone was achieved with El Paso Locomotive, a team competing in the United States' second-tier league, the USL Championship.

The 35-year-old actor took to the field on Sunday as a substitute in the 79th minute during Locomotive's USL Cup match against New Mexico United. Despite the team's 2-0 defeat, Fernandez's appearance marked a significant personal achievement, as he returned to soccer after a long hiatus due to a past knee injury.

A Long-Awaited Return to Soccer

Before his acting career, Fernandez was a promising young footballer in Guadalajara, Mexico. However, his aspirations were temporarily halted at age 15 when he suffered a knee injury. Years later, after moving to London and finding success in acting, Fernandez reignited his passion for soccer.

In May, Fernandez joined El Paso Locomotive after a successful two-month trial, fulfilling a lifelong ambition. His performance during the brief debut included three touches and a yellow card received for a foul on New Mexico United's goalkeeper, Kris Shakes.

From Screen to Field

Fernandez's journey from acting in an award-winning series to playing professional soccer is a testament to his determination. Known for the catchphrase "Football is life", his character in 'Ted Lasso' reflects Fernandez's own belief in pursuing one's dreams, regardless of life's twists and turns.

Reflecting on his soccer debut, Fernandez expressed, "This journey back to professional soccer is about believing in yourself, taking risks, and continuing to chase your dreams no matter how unexpected the path may be."

Meanwhile, fans of 'Ted Lasso' can look forward to the show's fourth season, which is set to premiere on Apple TV on August 5. While Fernandez's transition to professional sports is a new venture, his contributions to both fields showcase his versatility and dedication.
